Talk About It Program

The Talk About It program here in the Modoc Joint Unified School District allows our faculty to meet students where they are – online and with text messaging – to help solve issues. By reducing the stigma of communicating with the trusted adults in our district, the service allows students to open up and break the ‘code of silence.’ This breakthrough will provide the opportunity for students to solve issues related to bullying, violence, depression, and more – at the point of inception rather than after it is too late. A top priority in the district for staff, community, and our board of trustees is a safe learning/working environment and we feel confident that the use of the Talk About It program will assist us in addressing this high priority. Healthy Kids Survey
In California, the Healthy Kids Survey has been administered to 5th, 7th, 9th, and 11th grade students every other year since 2003. The 2011 results are now posted on the district webpage. The survey provides districts with valuable information about how kids feel about their health, safety in their schools, alcohol and drug use, and if they feel connected to the school and community. Modoc Joint Unified School District in collaboration with the Modoc Prevention Collaborative will use the results to develop a strategic plan in the schools to meet student’s needs over the next two years.
Please take a few minutes and look at the results. Parents have a powerful influence. Please have a conversation about the survey data with your son/daughter. Any input on the results would be appreciated. Please contact De Funk, Modoc County Office of Education at 233-7128 with any questions or for further information. Below are the results in pdf format.
