South Fork Elementary School
South Fork Elementary School is located in Likely (pop. 200), Modoc County, California, 18 miles south of Alturas on State Highway 395. We have one experienced, credentialed teacher, three instructional support staff members, and one utility person currently serving 10 students in grades K-5. South Fork serves families in Madeline, Lassen County, along with families in the Likely area. Children from Alturas are also accepted when space is available.
The South Fork Parents Club hosts the annual “Likely Card Party”, the only fundraising effort used to provide the “extras” needed for the students.
Our modern well-kept facility has two classrooms, an updated computer lab, a cafeteria/library, and a large multi-purpose room with a stage. The playground is enormous and surrounded on two sides by contented cows grazing on irrigated pastures; a wonderful location for life and learning.
Textbooks are up-to-date and consistent with California state standards. School bus service is convenient for most students. Our field trips are taken within and outside Modoc County for a variety of student educational experiences.
