ALTURAS, CA — At its meeting on June 17, 2025, the Modoc Joint Unified School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved the appointment of Mrs. Rebecca (Beckie) Lewis as the next Superintendent of Modoc Joint Unified School District. Mrs. Lewis will officially assume her new role on July 1, 2025.

Mrs. Lewis brings 19 years of dedicated service to Modoc Joint Unified School District. She began her career in the district as a secretary at Modoc High School, where she served for four years. She later transitioned to the classroom as a teacher at Alturas Elementary School for nine years, and for the past six years has served as principal of Alturas Elementary School. Throughout her tenure, Beckie has demonstrated strong leadership, a deep commitment to student achievement, and an unwavering dedication to the staff, students, and families of the district.

A product of the Modoc Joint Unified School District, Mrs. Lewis attended Modoc schools before relocating her senior year. Her longstanding ties to the community, combined with nearly two decades of service in multiple roles within the district, provide her with a deep understanding of the needs, values, and priorities of Modoc County.
