NOTICE OF UPCOMING VACANCY
Modoc Joint Unified School District Board of Trustees
The Modoc Joint Unified School District is seeking a qualified community member to serve on the Board of Trustees.
An upcoming vacancy will occur on the Modoc Joint Unified School District Board of Trustees in November 2026. No candidate filed nomination papers to run for the seat during the applicable filing period. As a result, the District will begin the process of identifying a qualified individual to fill the upcoming vacancy in accordance with California law and applicable Board policy.
Who Can Serve?
The Board of Trustees is responsible for providing leadership and governance for the District and making decisions that support the educational success, safety, and well-being of students throughout the Modoc Joint Unified School District.
An individual seeking consideration must meet all applicable legal qualifications for service on a California school district governing board, including applicable residency and voter registration requirements, and must not be disqualified from holding public office under state law.
What Does a Board Member Do?
Board members work as a governing team to:
Establish District policies and priorities.
Approve and oversee the District budget.
Provide governance and accountability for District programs and services.
Hire and evaluate the Superintendent.
Establish goals and priorities for student achievement.
Ensure compliance with state and federal requirements.
Represent the interests of students, families, staff, and the community.
Participate in Board meetings, training, and other required activities.
Board members do not manage the day-to-day operations of the District. Those responsibilities are delegated to the Superintendent and District administration.

A letter of interest explaining why they would like to serve on the Board of Trustees; and
A brief statement of qualifications and community involvement.
